Pro-Housing Pittsburgh: Dormont Borough Walking Tour

  • Meet @ Hillsdale Park 2994 West Liberty Avenue Pittsburgh, PA, 15216 United States (map)

For this walking tour, we’ll meet up with our neighbors just to the south in the Borough of Dormont. Incorporated in 1909, it occupies just 0.76 sq miles and features the largest outdoor pool in the state and a bustling business corridor.

The borough adopted a new zoning code in 2020, clearing the way for transit-oriented development around their two PRT stops. Hear about the future vision for Dormont, and how they got here, from Borough Council President Jen Mazzoco and & Councilperson Chris Reiger.

Be prepared to walk about a mile (or less), and plan to stick around if you’d like to socialize after. We’ll finish near the business district on Potomac Ave.

How to get there:
Hillsdale Park is a short walking distance from a metered parking lot at the Dormont Village Shopping Center. There is also a paid lot at 2921 Glenmore Ave. There are bike racks along Potomac Ave and at the lot on 2921 Glenmore Ave.

If taking public transit, be aware that Red line T service is temporarily disrupted in this area. There are three bus options:

  • The 41 - Bower Hill (service every 35 minutes), starts from downtown at Penn Station and travels along W Liberty. The closest stop to our meeting point is W Liberty Ave + Wisconsin Ave, a short walk.

  • The 37 - Castle Shannon (service every 30 minutes), also runs along W Liberty, but originates at Station Square. The closest stop to our meeting point is W Liberty Ave + Park Ave, a 0.25 mile walk. This bus is free.

  • The 42 - Potomac (service every 20 minutes) originates at Station Square and travels along Broadway Ave. The closest stop to our meeting point is the end of the line at Broadway Ave & Potomac. Though it is more frequent, this will require a 0.5 mile walk to our meeting point. This bus route is also free.

You may want to consider extra travel time, and refer PRT’s website or customer support should you have any questions.
